knitting

I'm meeting with my craft group tomorrow night. Yes, you read that right, craft group. I already read so many books I didn't want to join a book group but wanted to do something a bit different, something that could inspire me on a Wednesday night. I like my office desk job, I do but nothing quite beats the satisfaction of doing something or making something with your own fair hands and then seeing it right in front of you at the end of it all. It's probably why I like cooking so much, apart from the eating part of course. So I spoke to a few like minded friends and what started as a handful of people six months ago has now become ten. We meet once a month at someone's house, have a glass of wine and cheese and biscuits and then everyone gets on with their craft based projects or helps each other if anyone's stuck.

I'm half the way through a patchwork quilt (I just need to buy the wadding and put it all together actually) and am now making a very basic knitted scarf for Welsh Boy. Not that he'll need it by the time I finish it, but he'll have to say he loves it anyway which will be a guaranteed ego boost for me! Some girls sew, some knit, some quilt and one embroiders but what's really nice is it's a complete mix of friends or friends of friends who all have more in common than they might have thought. One girl's doing a PHD in genetics, another works for a Publisher, a third is a Physiotherapist and yet we all come away feeling better than we did when we got there. Yes sometimes I feel like a WI member but even when I'm tired and the week is dragging, I look forward to a stitch n bitch session and the chance to knit just a few more rows.
