literary sorbet

I've always loved reading a wide range of books, everything from classics to crime and from short stories to children's books. Actually, I especially love children's books which does prove helpful in my line of work. Although there have been moments in the past when I've been reading a brightly coloured book about monsters or fairies on the tube and only to look up and realise other commuters with their ipads and smart phones are staring slightly, as if to wonder why a grown woman seems to have a the reading ability of an 8 year old.

Now and again though, particularly if I've had to read a lot of manuscripts in a very short space of time, it's nice to read something completely different to cleanse the pallet so to speak. A friend of mine and I recently dubbed these books 'literary sorbet'. She favours True Blood whereas I found myself drawn to teen chick lit. The voice in Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen is so captivating I couldn't put it down and found myself effortlessly drawn into the narrative and when I'd finished, left with a nicely cleansed pallet.
