Between Shades of Gray

I always rate book recommendations from my friends fairly highly when it comes to choosing what to read next. Which is just as well because otherwise there is a strong chance I wouldn't have picked Between Shades of Gray and I am so, so glad I did. Set in 1941, it follows the story of a 15 year old Lithuanian girl called Lina who is sent to Siberia, not a cheery start you might think and you'd be right. But it isn't that type of book, instead Between Shades of Gray is a powerful, heartwarming, horrifying tale. With well crafted narrative that pulls you effortlessly through the pages, I still can't stop thinking about it even months after I read the final page. It is the kind of book that reminds you all over again how little you know about the rest of the world and makes you think of all the untold, personal stories you'll simply never hear about. So if you happen to be in between books right now and fancy reading a new YA title, I too can highly recommend Between Shades of Gray, I promise you won't regret it.
