day to day
I remember when I was in my last year of university and starting to think (panic) seriously about what exactly I was going to do when I finished. The hardest part was was not researching prospective careers or even applying for jobs themselves, it was trying to figure out what exactly the jobs entailed on a daily basis. Job hunting is much like flat hunting in many ways - you often have to read into the descriptions so in the same way that 'cozy' means 'small', 'good organisation skills' means your workload will be huge. That's partly why work experience is so important, it's the only way to really know what a role involves on a day to day basis. I've been guest blogging for the last month on the mslexia blog about precisely that, what it is that I do all day every day. Writing about it in a way that will make sense to someone who knows nothing about Publishing has been quite interesting. I've tried to balance the more technical stuff with the things I've found most memorable, like learning that they don't have jelly in Denmark, who knew!
