I've not long got back from Frankfurt Book Fair and am just starting to recover. Not so much from the long meetings and social events as the nasty cold/flu bug that struck me down on the first day. Thankfully all the lemsips and honey and lemon drinks I've been sipping have kicked in and my voice is now pretty much back to normal. That's what too much talking about books does for you! Frankfurt Book Fair is a huge, International Publishing trade fair and you can click here if for any reason you want to know more about it.
It was a good Fair though, pretty optimistic in spite of all the recession doom and gloom. Whilst Publishers generally spent less time at the fair, they made it count more by being more decisive and knew what they did and didn't want. Interestingly enough, I think the current climate has actually increased innovation, in the form of both new start up companies and existing Publishers expanding digitally. That said, a lot more Editors told me they preferred to receive actual copies of our books than PDF's as they are easier to read and review so I'm not sure putting all your eggs in a digital basket is the way forward just yet...
