buying British

As you can probably tell from my post a few days ago, my online Christmas shopping is now in full swing.  Maybe it's because I'm getting older and my student days are long behind me, but I'm definitely starting to become a lot more conscious of where my money goes. It stands to reason that if I want to live in a community with local shops, I should support them. Of course it's not always easy when times are tight and the cost of pretty much everything has gone up. After all, big shops can always offer bigger discounts but I can't think of much worse than a future where every single British high street looks exactly the same, can you? Which brings me nicely to the second thing I've become more aware of recently, which is paying attention to where the things I buy actually come from. Everything from food to jewellery to gadgets seems to come from abroad these days. I am by no means xenophobic, but I do think one way to support the UK economy would be to actively buy and promote British products. After all, other countries have been doing the very same thing unapologetically for years. So here are my most recent British recommendations for both ends of the price scale, one is the amazing UK chocolate brand Montezuma's and the other is Daisy Knight's handmade, ethically sourced jewellery. Happy shopping!
