other side of the world
She made the decision and booked the flights months ago but it's only recently that my little sister left for Australia. She has a vague plan to spend Christmas in Perth with our distant family and depending on her luck finding a job, will either stay there or move back to the East Coast. Thanks to the wonders of skype, mobile phones and the internet, we're still in touch fairly regularly and it sounds like she's having an amazing time already. It is a little odd though, having conversations late at night here, all wrapped up snug in a big jumper whilst she is sat eating her breakfast in a sunlit room. It's things like that which remind me she really is on the other side of the world where the stars look different and the water goes down the drain the wrong way. I have no doubt that my sister will have an incredible experience, no matter how long she decides to stay, but that won't stop me missing her a lot in the meantime.
